While she initially explored other paths, earning a degree from The Evergreen State College with a focus on Sociology and African American Studies, her deep-seated love for people and care work remained her guiding star. Her compassion led her to volunteer in shelters and rehabilitation centers during a study abroad program in Ethiopia – an experience that profoundly shaped her purpose. She even worked in the medical field as a nursing assistant and Med Tech, always putting others first.

But as fate would have it, her calling led her back to her roots. With a little nudge from her loved ones, Meki enrolled at Evergreen Beauty College in Renton. And guess what? She even trained under April Purcell, now her fantastic colleague right here at Vasuda! It was there that Meki truly fell head over heels for mastering skills she never expected to love so much – like the transformative power of perms, precision haircuts, and intricate loc retwists. The joy these services brought her, and the confidence they ignited in her clients, was undeniable.
