Artist Spotlight - Emmett Henley


You may have met Vasuda Salon owner and education director Emmett Henley at one of our 3 locations. He is usually with a client or helping one of the team member with formula suggestion or just stopping to say hi. This Chicago native relocated to Seattle in 2008 and hit the ground running with the hopes of elevating the beauty industry and raising the bar with curly & ethnic hair types in the PACNW. Below are more facts about Emmett.

  • Family: 4 children 23, 17, 9 & 6

  • Early life: Emmett grew up Ward of the Illinois State Court. living with Grandmothers, Aunts, Grandfather & family friends. he has 4 siblings but was raised with 10 children in all.

  • Emmett started at age 13 assisting his grandmother in her Chicago Salon. He enrolled in cosmetology during high school (Running Start Program) and went on the further his training at the original Aveda Institute in Minneapolis training Under Horst M. Rechelbacher; Aveda Founder.

  • Emmett Has obtained Cosmetology & Master Cosmetologist licenses in 4 states IL, NY, MN and WA.

  • He facilitated development of Horst Aveda Salon’s 1st Curly and Textured Hair training program 1995.

  • Emmett Henley was nominated Master Stylist of the Year by Northwest Hairstylist Awards.

  • Emmett has done training for over 10,000 Hairstylists & travels the world presenting at international Hair shows as an educator, Platform Artist & Editorial Stylist well as in salon training

  • As a Member of Moroccanoil Creative Design Team he has participate in Fashion Weeks across America including NY Fashion Week working on Runway Shows for Zac Posen, Cushnie Et Ochs, Vera Wang, Marchesa, as well as local designers.

  • He has worked as an educator for Davines, Moroccanoil, Aveda, Kevin Murphy, Keratin Complex, Marcia Teixeira

  • Product Research & Development for Aveda. Helping to develop and test Aveda Brilliant Line and products for curly & Textured Hair types.

  • Emmett donates 25% of all earning to families living with HIV/AIDS. Particularly Awareness, Medication & Adherence Support.

  • Emmett has been recognized for quality and excellence in national and local publications such as; Self Magazine (best textured hair stylist), Minnesota Monthly, Seattle MET Magazine, Salon Services Viewpoint, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Bangstyle Online Magazine, Modern Salon Magazine, Ville Magazine Master Hairstylist of the year. Northwest Stylist Magazine.
